MAYOR’S PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, the celebration of childcare providers was first observed in New Jersey in 1996 recognizing the service & immense contributions of childcare providers, teachers, & youth educators to our society & throughout our nation; &

WHEREAS, during this now 25th annual celebration that is recognized the Friday before each Mother’s Day, we should all be especially mindful & appreciative of the care, commitment, compassion, & love exhibited by our childcare providers for our children; &

WHEREAS, less than one-third of the children in America have a full-time, stay-at-home parent & thus childcare providers are so often partners in rearing so many of our children; &

WHEREAS, childcare providers include private home daycare, daycare centers, in-home providers, after-school programs, & live-in nannies in whom we collectively place our trust as childcare providers share child-rearing responsibilities with parents & guardians;

WHEREAS, our Buckhannon-Upshur childcare providers deserve our highest recognition & commendation for their important service to our community while taking care of our most precious assets- our children; &

WHEREAS, all of the employees of the Child Development Center, Kids R Kids, Mountain Cap’s CDC, The Island Nursery, Little Ones Place, Tennerton Tots, Head Start, & our City’s own Stockert Youth & Community Center together with all other childcare providers employed in our B-U community- collectively offer us kind & competent reassurance during this critical time that our children are in most excellent & caring hands.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DAVID W. McCAULEY, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF BUCKHANNON, pursuant to the power & authority duly vested in me, do hereby proclaim Friday, May 8, 2020, to be NATIONAL CHILDCARE PROVIDER DAY throughout Buckhannon.  I further urge all of our residents to be mindful of the incredible contributions & selfless service offered to our community by our childcare providers especially during this anxious & trying time, & I encourage all of our residents to make it a point this week to seek out our childcare providers & thank each of them for all that they do for us every day.
