Painting at the Dog Park!

BUCKHANNON, WV: On Wednesday, the summer school-age class from the Child Development Center of Central West Virginia took a field trip to the Buckhannon Dog Park to paint the new agility tunnel. The feature is the latest addition to the popular dog park located at the Elizabeth J. “Binky” Poundstone Riverwalk Park at the end of Camden Avenue in Buckhannon. Lowes of Buckhannon donated paint for the event and Mayor McCauley donated brushes, pans, and related supplies.

Teachers Ms. Janna, Ms. LaDawn, Ms. Darla, Ms. Briana and CDC Director Chuck Loudin co-led the students in the activity, along with Mayor McCauley and daughter Ashley McCauley Cilento. City personnel, Jerry Arnold, Public Works Director, Brad Hawkins, Street Department Supervisor, and Callie Cronin Sams, Information Coordinator, joined in the fun. Mayor McCauley celebrated the event, saying “Today was the perfect storm for fun, kids, our dog park, art, & our river trail! Thanks to Chad Corley & Lowes for graciously providing the paint, & to all the kids who turned out to imprint their handprints on our Dog Park Dachshund!”

The Buckhannon Dog Park, a volunteer-led initiative, opened in 2017 after a group of dog enthusiasts partnered with the City of Buckhannon and West Virginia Wesleyan College to bring their dream of leash-free exercise to fruition. The park provides a safe place for dogs to play off-leash, socialize with other dogs, and practice their agility skills. The Buckhannon Dog Park Committee welcomes new volunteers and donations for additional agility features and ongoing maintenance of the park. You can donate to the dog park via their Go Fund Me page, or make a monthly recurring donation along with your Buckhannon Utility Payment.

It’s easy to get involved and see what’s happening at the Dog Park with the Buckhannon Volunteer Center and the Buckhannon Dog Park FaceBook page.
