Street Paving Project: Smithfield Street

UPDATE, November 19, 2020: The paving contractor has re-scheduled the paving of Smithfield Street due to the low temperatures we have experienced this week. In order for the asphalt to be laid properly, we need milder and dryer weather conditions.

As of right now, the contractor is striving to begin work shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday, weather conditions permitting. We will post the new schedule as it becomes available. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we remain committed and excited to complete this long-awaited street improvement project!

If you have any questions please contact Brad Hawkins at 304-472-5755 or 304-677-3862.

Original Story:

November 9, 2020

BUCKHANNON, WV: The City of Buckhannon Streets and Parks Department will be paving Smithfield Street from E. Victoria to E. Lincoln Street beginning Monday, November 16, through Friday, November 20, 2020.

If within the affected area, please park all vehicles off-street between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. during these dates. Any vehicles parked on the street when paving begins will be towed at the owner’s expense.

This project is dependent on mild weather conditions, so the actual dates may change. If so, notice will be provided. If you have any questions please contact Brad Hawkins at 304-472-5755.

Thank you for your cooperation as we maintain our critical street infrastructure.

The City of Buckhannon Streets and Parks Department maintains 26 miles of streets, 19 miles of sidewalks, seven parking lots, and the River Walk & River View trails, equaling 3,800,000 square feet of paved surface in streets and 400,000 square feet in sidewalks. This considerable infrastructure attracts residents, businesses, and tourists to the City, increasing the quality of life and enhancing local economic development.
