Randy Sanders: Bio
Randy Sanders, City Recorder
Current Term: 2022 – 2026
A native of Upshur County, Randy grew up in Rock Cave and moved to Buckhannon after graduating from Buckhannon-Upshur High School with the Class of 1976. He served on several community committees and boards, including the WV Strawberry Festival.
His work with the local festival cultivated an interest in producing live events, specifically pageantry. In 1987, he moved to Pennsylvania for a full-time position in the pageant industry, a career in which he enjoyed much success, owning his own production and marketing company, Sanders & Associates, Inc., dba Pageant Associates. Until his retirement, he produced Miss USA and Miss Teen USA, state preliminary pageants under license from the Miss Universe Organization. In 2018, he sold his personal properties in Pennsylvania, moved back to his hometown, and made Buckhannon, once more, his only place of residence.
As the City Recorder for Buckhannon, Randy also serves as a voting member of the City Council and the Stockert Youth & Community Center and as the Ex-Officio Secretary for the Consolidated Public Works Board, Sanitary Board, Water Board, and Waste Collection Board. He is also a non-voting member and recording secretary for the Animal Care and Control Commission, Fire Civil Service Commission, Historic Landmarks Commission, Housing Enforcement Board, Planning Commission, Police Civil Service Commission, Television Cable Board, and the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Sanders also serves as the City Information Coordinator. In 2020, he coordinated a successful effort to bring the 2023 Would Association of Marching Show Bands World Competition to Buckhannon and still serves as the President of the WAMSB Buckhannon Host Committee, Inc., which produced the worldwide event from July 17 to 24, 2023.
