City Council supports School Levy: Go vote on January 19th
BUCKHANNON, WV: The City of Buckhannon City Council supports the school excess levy, which will provide funding for instructional materials, security, facility maintenance, and extracurricular activities (arts, music, and sports) in our local school system if passed. The election will be held on January 19, 2019 at the normal polling locations throughout Upshur County. We encourage all residents to vote in favor of the levy and our community.
WHEREAS, among other things, the proposed school levy will dedicate revenue toward the prevention resource officers (PROs), instructional programs, supplies, materials, equipment, technology access and improvement, capital improvements and preventive maintenance, substitute employees, extracurricular activities and extended employment agreements, contracted services and student-related community services, and safety enhancements and improvements, all while servicing all of the schools throughout Upshur County; and,
WHEREAS, the citizens of Buckhannon have historically, strongly supported public education and hence school levies; and,
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Buckhannon believes it is important and compelling to remind all citizens of our Buckhannon-Upshur community to value, support, and appreciate public education, and urges all of our voting citizens to vote FOR the 2019 School Levy on Saturday, January 19, 2019, further reminding all citizens that communities that value education through school levy support are generally viewed by the external business world as being the most financially viable and progressive communities meriting consideration for economic development.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BUCKHANNON, AS FOLLOWS:
(1) That the City Council hereby formally and in all respects endorses our partners, i.e., the members of the Upshur County Board of Education, our Schools’
