Tuesday, November 11, 2025

•    Veterans Day – All City Offices will be closed, including the Transfer Station.  The Waste pickup schedule will run as usual.

  • Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony – Veterans Day Parade will travel down Main Street, with a ceremony at 11:00 a.m. in Jawbone Park.  The parade lineup begins at 8:30 a.m.

Friday, November 14, 2025

  • Yard Waste Collection for City Residents: Yard Waste (debris) will be collected from City of Buckhannon residents.  Residents must contact Buckhannon City Hall to be placed on the collection list. City residents may take their bagged yard waste (debris) to the Transfer Station during regular operating hours at no charge, and may bring up to two truckloads per year, also at no charge.

Dates to Remember – These events have been scheduled with the city’s Consolidated Public Works Board

  • November 27, 2025 – Upshur County Recreational Complex will hold a 5K, beginning in Jawbone Park at 7:30 a.m.
  • December 5, 2025 – Buckhannon Fire Department Christmas Parade down Main Street at 6:00 p.m.  Santa Claus will visit the Buckhannon Fire Department following the parade.
  • December 14, 2025 – Annual Menorah Lighting in Jawbone Park at 7:00 p.m.

Coming to the Colonial Arts Center

  • Now through December 13, 2025 – The CAC Gallery at the Colonial Arts Center is hosting Luminescence,’ a solo exhibition by Sikara Sokel.  The CAC Gallery is open 4 to 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.  Sokel is a contemporary painter from Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and a 2024 graduate of Shepherd University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She primarily works in oil, reimagining traditional portraiture through vibrancy, light and color.
  • December 4 through 7, 2025 – Buckhannon Community Theatre presents “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Jr.”

Reminders – To help keep our town and streets attractive, please:

  • Keep clippings and leaves out of the street as they can block stormwater drains and cause flooding.  When mowing, always blow the grass away from the street.
  • Trash cans should be hidden from public view as much as possible during the week; place them at the curb the night before collection, and return them within 24 hours after collection.
