  • Curbside Recycling Pick-Up begins at 6:00 a.m. – Pick-up is within the City Limits of Buckhannon. Information about recycling can be found on our website at https://buckhannonwv.org/residents/recycling/, at City Hall, or by calling the Recycling Center or Upshur County Solid Waste Authority at (304) 472-4443.

  • Buckhannon-Upshur High School Parade – The Homecoming Parade for Buckhannon-Upshur High School takes place down Main Street, with activities afterward in Jawbone Park. The parade starts at 6:00 p.m.

  • Bulky Goods Collection Begins at 5:30 AM – Bulky goods collection for large items such as couches, chairs, mattresses, appliances, etc. (All Buckhannon Waste Department customers are allowed four (4) items per month and eight (8) tires per year.)   You must call by Wednesday, October 8, 2025, to schedule a pick-up.  Items must be at the curb by 5:30 AM on Friday to ensure pick-up.
  • Yard Waste Collection for City Residents – Yard Waste (debris) will be collected from City of Buckhannon residents.  Residents must contact Buckhannon City Hall to be placed on the collection list. City residents may take their bagged yard waste (debris) to the Transfer Station during regular operating hours at no charge, and may bring up to two truckloads per year, also at no charge.
  • In the CAC Art Gallery – Come visit the 2nd annual “Booockhannon Art Exhibit”. For details, click here.

  • October 8, 2025 – Buckhannon-Upshur High School Homecoming Parade down Main Street with activities following in Jawbone Park. The parade begins at 6:00 p.m.
  • October 18, 2025 – Harvest Festival & Chili Cook-off hosted by Moon Flower, 46 East Main Street, Buckhannon, WV.  Enjoy crafts, flowers, homemade goods, and thrift items. They will showcase chili made from 10+ local restaurants.
  • October 27, 2025 – Trunk-or-Treat will be held in the Public Safety Complex Parking Lot from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
  • October 31, 2025 – Trick-or-Treat in Buckhannon’s city limits from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
  • October 31, 2025 – Pop’s Furniture Halloween Costume Contest in Jawbone Park from 7:45 to 8:30 p.m.
  • November 11, 2025 – Veterans Day Parade down Main Street with activities afterward in Jawbone Park.  The parade lineup begins at 8:30 a.m.
  • November 27, 2025 – Upshur County Recreational Complex will hold a 5K, beginning in Jawbone Park at 7:30 a.m.
  • December 5, 2025 – Buckhannon Fire Department Christmas Parade down Main Street at 6:00 p.m.  Santa Claus will visit the Buckhannon Fire Department following the parade.
  • December 14, 2025 – Annual Menorah Lighting in Jawbone Park at 7:00 p.m.

Additional Information

Monday, October 13, 2025, is Columbus Day
– All City offices, including the Transfer Station, will be closed. Waste Collection will continue as usual.

Reminders – To help keep our town and streets attractive, please:

  • Keep grass clippings out of the street as they can block stormwater drains and cause flooding.  When mowing, always blow the grass away from the street.
  • Trash cans should be hidden from public view as much as possible during the week; place them at the curb the night before collection, and return them within 24 hours after collection.

Utility Bill Payments: Pay utility bills online at Municipal Online Payments or by phone at 1-866-933-4026. Setting up an account allows you to monitor your consumption.

Report Repairs or Concerns: To report issues such as potholes or damaged signs, please call City Hall during business hours to submit a work order or use our Citizen Engagement tool: Report a Concern.
