Mayor’s Proclamation: Roy Pettit Ambassador Award

Whereas, longtime Buckhannon-Upshur resident ROY E. PETTIT has been an excellent contributor to our high quality of life in Buckhannon for decades, first & foremost as a dedicated educator- a teacher, principal, & assistant schools’ superintendent, but further as a coal industry business associate who worked for Badger Coal, Inc.; &

Whereas, ROY PETTIT further is a decorated United States military veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, along with being a proud & supportive alumnus of West Virginia Wesleyan College having earned his bachelor’s degree while majoring in political science & history; &

Whereas, MR. PETTIT has touched thousands of young lives during his long tenure through his passionate & compassionate service to our Upshur County school system; &

Whereas, our Buckhannon-Upshur community appreciates & values the longtime efforts, energy, & dedication of one of our finest residents & wishes to honor & commend ROY PETTIT in his continued, positive mission always supporting our entire B-U community & for his decades of excellent service; &

Whereas, our City now desires to recognize ROY PETTIT by bestowing upon him our City’s highest honor with the Ambassador’s Award.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DAVID W. McCAULEY, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF BUCKHANNON, pursuant to the power & authority duly vested in me, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, November 13, 2018 to be “ROY PETTIT DAY” throughout our City of Buckhannon.

To further memorialize ROY PETTIT’S devotion to and affinity for our Buckhannon-Upshur community, I further now hereby bestow upon him, the Buckhannon Ambassador Award, becoming one of the very few recipients & honorees of this most prestigious award.  Appropriately, I direct the installation of a permanent placard upon the “Ambassador’s Bench” on East Main Street in front of our City’s Stockert Youth & Community Center to permanently honor ROY E. PETTIT, bearing the inscription-

– – “THE AMBASSADORS’ BENCH – HONORING THOSE WHO SELFLESSLY DEDICATED THEIR LIVES TO THE SERVICE, PROMOTION, & ADVANCEMENT OF BUCKHANNON” – –

I further urge all of our residents to greet our community’s most honored citizen, ROY PETTIT, along with his wife Donna, family, friends, & all members of our City government family during his most special day.
