Free Paper Shredding & Celebration of Recycling 9/8

August 23, 2018

BUCKHANNON, WV: Do you have some paper piling up? Bring it to the Crossroads Recycling Center on Saturday, Sept. 8th from 9:00 a.m. to noon and the Upshur County Solid Waste Authority will shred it for free. The event is sponsored by the Upshur County Solid Waste Authority and is open to all Upshur County residents for personal household paper shredding (not for businesses, sorry).

The City of Buckhannon and Upshur County Solid Waste Authority partner to provide recycling services to all residents, as well as offering commercial cardboard recycling, school paper recycling, paper shred events, and year-round appliance, electronics, and yard waste recycling. These services are provided in a variety of collection methods, both curbside and through collection centers.

Curbside recycling is available to City of Buckhannon residents the first and third Tuesday of every month. Plastics (#1 and #2) and steel and aluminum cans are collected in curbside bins provided by the Upshur County Solid Waste Authority, or in the resident’s personal bin, as long as the materials are sorted and bagged. The City believes this is a vital service to provide to residents who may not be able to recycle otherwise if the drop-off facilities were their only option.

City and County residents may drop-off recycling at two collection centers: Crossroads Recycling Center at the “crossroads” of WV Route 33/48 and WV Route 20 at the Sheetz and Wal-Mart Cross-Roads shopping plaza or the Mudlick Recycling Center at the City of Buckhannon Waste Department Headquarters at 443 Mudlick Road, Buckhannon, West Virginia. City of Buckhannon and Upshur County residents may drop off the following materials at both centers: newspapers, office paper, and glossies, corrugated cardboard, aluminum and steel cans, and #1 & #2 plastics. Electronics and appliances may be recycled at the Mudlick Recycling Center only (not Crossroads Recycling Center). The Upshur County Solid Waste Authority and the Upshur County Transfer Station are also housed at the Mudlick Road Waste Complex. The Mudlick Recycling Center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on Saturday. The Crossroads Recycling Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Yard waste is collected from City of Buckhannon residents the first and third Friday of the month from December 1 through August 31, and every Friday from September 1 through November 30. Residents contact Buckhannon City Hall to be placed on the collection list. City residents may take their bagged yard waste to the Recycling Center during normal operating hours free of charge and may bring two truckloads to the Recycling Center per year, free of charge.
