Bulky Goods Collection Begins at 5:30 AM – Bulky goods collection for large items such as couches, chairs, mattresses, appliances, etc. (All Buckhannon Waste Department customers are allowed four (4) items per month and eight (8) tires per year.) You must call by Wednesday, July 9, 2025, to schedule a pick-up. Items must be at the curb by 5:30 AM on Friday to ensure pick-up.
Yard Waste Collection for City Residents – Yard Waste (debris) will be collected from City of Buckhannon residents. Residents must contact Buckhannon City Hall to be placed on the collection list. City residents may take their bagged yard waste (debris) to the Transfer Station during normal operating hours at no charge, and may bring up to two truckloads per year, also at no charge.
Festival Fridays in Jawbone Park – Create Buckhannon continues its summer season with the band Soda Pop Gypsies, whose style encompasses a diverse range of genres. Festival Fridays is a free, family-friendly community event hosted by Create Buckhannon. Enjoy live music, local food vendors, fresh produce, and a variety of artisans and crafters. Notice Rescheduled Meeting of the City of Buckhannon City Council – The City of Buckhannon City Council meeting date of July 17, 2025, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.
Deadline Approaches for Application: Probationary Firefighter in City Fire Department – The Fire Civil Service Commission of the City of Buckhannon will accept applications for competitive examination to create a “List of Eligibles” for the position of probationary firefighter in the Fire Department of the City of Buckhannon, The Commission must receive all applications at City Hall or be postmarked, addressed to the Fire Civil Service Commission, 70 East Main Street, Buckhannon, WV 26201, no later than 4:30 p.m. or postmarked by 12:00 midnight on July 11, 2025. Applicants are subject to the following requirements: (1) Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and comply with §8-15-17 of the W. Va. Code. (2) Applicants must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. (3). Applicants must comply with all other laws, rules, and regulations as prescribed in writing by the Code of the State of West Virginia and by the Fire Civil Service Commission of Buckhannon, West Virginia. Copies of the current written rules and regulations of said Commission are available for inspection by any member of the public at the City Recorder's Office, 70 East Main Street, Buckhannon, West Virginia, during regular business hours. Application forms can be obtained by contacting the City Recorder’s Office, located at City Hall, 70 East Main Street, Buckhannon, WV 26201, or by calling 304-472-1651 to request that one be emailed, faxed, or mailed. Applicants must pass the physical agility test and a written competitive examination. Successful candidates who may be hired are subject to residency requirements. Applicants must also pass a criminal background check, a drug test, a physical exam, and a psychological evaluation.
The Colonial Arts Center Hosts BCT’s “Mamma Mia!” – “Mamma Mia!” is a feel-good musical set on a Greek island, centering on Sophie, a young bride-to-be, and her quest to discover the identity of her father before her wedding. Her mother, Donna, had three potential suitors in her past, all of whom Sophie secretly invited to the wedding. Updates Regarding Yard Waste Collection for City Residents – Yard Waste (debris) will be collected from City of Buckhannon residents on the following dates: July 11, 2025, July 25, 2025, August 8, 2025, and August 22. 2025. Beginning September 1, 2025, it will be collected every Friday through November 30. Residents must contact Buckhannon City Hall to be placed on the collection list. City residents may take their bagged yard waste (debris) to the Transfer Station during normal operating hours at no charge, and are permitted to bring two truckloads per year, also at no charge.
Pay Utility Bills Online or by Phone – To make an online payment for your utility bill, click here: https://www.municipalonlinepayments.com/buckhannonwv – To pay over the phone, call 1-866-933-4026. Even if you do not wish to pay your bill using this method, you may still want to set up an account, which will allow you to monitor your consumption. To sign up for this service, you will need to complete the online registration, which includes knowing your Utility Board Account Number (printed on your bill) and the last amount you paid. Once your account has been established, you must log in with the proper email and password.
Reporting a Necessary Repair or Registering a Concern with the City – To report a necessary repair, such as potholes, damaged street signs, an issue in a city park, etc., or any other matter that a city department should attend to, call City Hall during regular business hours and ask to submit a work order request, or report your concerns through our Citizens Engagement tool: https://buckhannonwv.portal.iworq.net/BUCKHANNON/new-request/700/3444. This will speed up the reaction time to a matter that needs immediate attention.
