City of Buckhannon Announces “Make It Shine” Free Garbage Dump Day – September 20, 2025
BUCKHANNON, WV: The City of Buckhannon is pleased to announce its upcoming Make It Shine Event, a Free Garbage Dump Day for Buckhannon waste customers with monthly billing, scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
This special event allows residents to dispose of unwanted items and household debris at no additional cost, while helping to keep our community clean and beautiful.
Eligibility Requirements
To participate, residents must:
- Be an active Buckhannon waste collection customer with monthly billing.
- Have their utility account paid in full and current.
- Present both a copy of their utility bill and a photo ID matching the account holder.
- Each household is limited to the equivalent of two pickup truck loads of debris.
- One large trailer or one dump truck = two loads.
Items Not Accepted Free of Charge
- Appliances containing Freon (refrigerators, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, etc.) must either be certified and tagged as having Freon removed or will be assessed a $25 fee per item.
- Tires will be charged according to size.
- Paint cans will only be accepted if the paint is completely dried out with lids removed.

“The Make It Shine event is one of the ways we partner with our residents to keep Buckhannon looking its best,” said Dakota Arnold, Superintendent of the Buckhannon Waste Collection Department. “It’s not only about convenience, but also about civic pride and environmental responsibility.”
