Mayor Robbie Skinner Recognized for Statewide Leadership and Community Impact

BUCKHANNON, WV: The City of Buckhannon proudly recognizes Mayor Robbie Skinner for receiving a statewide leadership award in June, Generation Next 40 under 40, honoring his ongoing commitment to community vitality, young professional retention, and local economic development. Skinner, 37, has built a distinguished career as a public servant, entrepreneur, and
advocate for West Virginia’s next generation.

Skinner currently serves as Executive Director of Generation West Virginia, Mayor of the City of Buckhannon, and owner of The Squire on Main, a fine jewelry store he established to strengthen downtown commerce. His work across these roles centers on creating opportunities for young West Virginians to build meaningful careers and vibrant lives within the state.

As mayor since 2020, Skinner chairs several municipal boards, including the Water, Sanitation, Waste Collection and Public Works boards, along with the Stockert Youth & Community Center Board. His leadership emphasizes collaboration, transparency, and hands‑on engagement. Residents frequently see him planting flowers, painting curbs, and participating directly in beautification projects that enhance Buckhannon’s welcoming character.

In his statewide role with Generation West Virginia, Skinner leads initiatives to attract and retain young talent, working with partners across all 55 counties to strengthen workforce pathways and community development. His entrepreneurial spirit extends beyond The Squire on Main to his landscape photography, which has earned recognition throughout West Virginia.

Skinner’s business and civic contributions have previously earned him the titles of Buckhannon‑Upshur Citizen of the Year, Businessman of the Year, and Young Gun by West Virginia Executive magazine. He also volunteers extensively, serving on the boards of the West Virginia Strawberry Festival, Artistry on Main, the Region VII Development Council, and the WVU/St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, and is active with the West Virginia Municipal League, and the Upshur County Development Authority.

A lifelong Upshur Countian, Skinner remains committed to building a sustainable future for the next generation through thoughtful policy, strong partnerships, and local commerce. The City celebrates this latest honor as a reflection of his dedication to Buckhannon and to West Virginia as a whole.
