Guidance from the West Virginia Army National Guard & City Waste Services

BUCKHANNON, WV: The West Virginia Army National Guard is on location in Buckhannon and throughout Upshur County, working directly with Upshur County officials and the City of Buckhannon to support flood‑recovery operations.

As floodwaters continue to recede, residents are asked to begin placing flood‑affected debris and damaged household items at the curb. This early staging will allow coordinated debris removal to begin as soon as the designated dump site is established, anticipated within the next day.  This activity is a county-wide initiative.

Regular City Waste Collection services will resume tomorrow, Wednesday, July 23, operating one day behind schedule. Crews will run the Wednesday route first. Please be patient—some areas may remain difficult or impossible for trucks to access safely.

Additionally, the City of Buckhannon Transfer Station will be open for regular hours tomorrow.

The County, City, and the WV Army National Guard appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as recovery efforts continue.
