Tuesday, August 4

  • Curbside Recycling Pickup begins at 6:00 a.m. – Pickup occurs within Buckhannon city limits. You can find information about recycling on our website at https://buckhannonwv.org/residents/recycling/, at City Hall, or by calling the Recycling Center or Upshur County Solid Waste Authority at (304) 472-4443.

Thursday, August 6

Announcements

  • All City parks remain closed, except City Park on Park Street, for cleaning and sanitation.

  • National Night Out for August 4th has been canceled due to the flood recovery efforts.

  • City Council Meeting for August 6th has been canceled due to a conflict with the WVML Conference.

  • Festival Friday in Jawbone Park on August 7th has been canceled due to the temporary closure of Jawbone Park and the flood recovery efforts.

  • WV Largest Yard Sale for August 7th – 8th has been canceled due to the flood recovery efforts.

  • Debris Removal Update: Residents are reminded to place flood‑damaged debris at the curb as soon as possible as the WV Army National Guard are making their final passes throughout the city and the county.  Items should be staged at the edge of the right of way in a manner that does not block roadways, sidewalks, or drainage paths. If your debris has not yet been collected — or if your location was accidentally missed — please let us know so arrangements can be made (only one request necessary).   • Buckhannon waiving all building and wiring permit fees for verified flood‑related repair and restoration work. Permits will still be required to ensure safety and compliance, but any project confirmed as flood‑related will receive a full fee waiver. Building Code Enforcement Officer Vincent Smith will inspect each project to verify eligibility.

  • Flood Relief Financial Donation Options – The City of Buckhannon and the Upshur County Commission have identified two official organizations for those wishing to make financial contributions to support local flood‑recovery efforts:
  • Trash Can Placement: Trash cans must be hidden from public view as much as possible during the week; place them at the curb the night before the collection and return them within 24 hours after the collection.
  • Utility Bill Payments: Pay utility bills online at Municipal Online Payments or by phone at 1-866-933-4026. Setting up an account allows you to monitor your consumption.
  • Report Repairs or Concerns: To report issues such as potholes or damaged signs, please call City Hall during business hours to submit a work order or use our Citizen Engagement tool: Report a Concern.
