JOINT NEWS RELEASE – Flood Recovery Debris Placement Encouraged

BUCKHANNON, WV — Updated Saturday, July 25, 2026. Officials from the City of Buckhannon, the Upshur County Commission, and the Upshur County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Management, in coordination with the West Virginia Army National Guard, continue flood‑recovery operations throughout the community.

Residents are strongly encouraged to place flood‑damaged debris and household items at the curb as soon as possible. Early placement will allow Guard units to continue coordinated pickup and removal as soon as possible. This debris‑collection effort is part of a county‑wide initiative to accelerate cleanup and support families affected by recent flooding.

Items should be staged at the edge of the right‑of‑way in a manner that does not block roadways, sidewalks, or drainage paths. Guard units will work systematically across impacted neighborhoods; however, some areas may remain difficult to reach until conditions improve.

The County, City, and the West Virginia Army National Guard appreciate the community’s cooperation and patience as recovery efforts continue.
