Announcements
- Jawbone Park and the North Buckhannon Riverfront Park to Open. Both parkswill officially reopen to the public beginning Friday, September 4, just in time for the upcoming Labor Day weekend. See the full news release here.
- Buckhannon is waiving all building and wiring permit fees for verified flood‑related repair and restoration work. Permits will still be required to ensure safety and compliance, but any project confirmed as flood‑related will receive a full fee waiver. Building Code Enforcement Officer Vincent Smith will inspect each project to verify eligibility.
- FEMA’s Disaster Recovery Center Is Open in Upshur County. FEMA is currently operating a Disaster Recovery Center in Upshur County to provide in‑person support for individuals and families seeking federal disaster aid following the recent flooding. The center is on the 2nd floor of the Upshur County Development Authority at 21 East Main Street, Buckhannon, and is open Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. FEMA personnel are available on-site to help residents: apply for federal disaster assistance; ask questions about available programs; and submit required documentation for Individual Assistance and related support. Residents who experienced damage or loss in the recent flood are strongly encouraged to visit the center as soon as possible. Meeting directly with FEMA staff can help ensure applications are completed accurately and processed without delay. Individuals may also apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov using Disaster Number DR‑4932, or by calling the FEMA Helpline at 1‑800‑621‑3362.
- Flood Relief Financial Donation Options – The City of Buckhannon and the Upshur County Commission have identified two official organizations for those wishing to make financial contributions to support local flood‑recovery efforts:

- Trash Can Placement: Trash cans must be hidden from public view as much as possible during the week; place them at the curb the night before the collection and return them within 24 hours after the collection.
- Utility Bill Payments: Pay utility bills online at Municipal Online Payments or by phone at 1-866-933-4026. Setting up an account allows you to monitor your consumption.
- Report Repairs or Concerns: To report issues such as potholes or damaged signs, please call City Hall during business hours to submit a work order or use our Citizen Engagement tool: Report a Concern.
