Campbell selected for Buckhannon Volunteer Center Coordinator role; Center will promote volunteer opportunities with the City and community organizations
May 7, 2018
BUCKHANNON, WV: On Thursday, the Buckhannon City Council voted to hire Sarah Campbell to lead the new Buckhannon Volunteer Center as the Volunteer Center Coordinator. Campbell is a recent graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Master of Business Administration program. She holds a bachelor’s degree in history, also from Wesleyan, and currently acts as the Director of Appalachian Impact.
The Buckhannon Volunteer Center will act as a hub for volunteerism in Buckhannon and the surrounding area, with a physical presence at City Hall and Stockert Youth & Community Center, as well as an online database accessed through the City’s webpage. Through the center, volunteers may share their interests, qualifications, and availability to determine what service opportunities best meet those criteria. Likewise, participating City departments and partner organizations will be able to advertise their volunteering needs targeted to individuals and teams that match the skill sets needed to fulfill their mission. As a result, both parties come away with a better experience and the community benefits from volunteers’ time, experience and expertise.
The Buckhannon Volunteer Center is a grant-funded program through Volunteer West Virginia and the Volunteer Generation Fund. The grant funding is a part of the Be Kind, #VolunteerWV initiative, a campaign developed by Volunteer West Virginia to dedicate a year of kindness to West Virginia. The campaign’s goal is simple: to spread kindness and volunteerism across the state.
Interested volunteers and organizations may reach out to Sarah by calling City Hall at (304) 472-1651 or by emailing sarah.campbell@buckhannonwv.org. Watch for Buckhannon Volunteer Center news and updates at www.buckhannonwv.org/buckhannon-volunteer-center.
