Community & Kindness Day is this Saturday starting at 8:00 AM at Jawbone Park

Volunteers from the community will tackle projects ranging from park cleanups, riverbank sweeps, to acts of kindness in all forms

BUCKHANNON: All this week, the City of Buckhannon is celebrating Community & Kindness culminating with the second annual Community & Kindness Day this Saturday, starting at 8:00 a.m. at Jawbone Park. All are welcome to attend and participate in a morning of service and giving back.

The weeklong celebration of kindness kicked off yesterday with a proclamation at Buckhannon Academy Elementary School, where teachers and students are planning projects to spread kindness throughout the school and community.

Principal Susanne Britton describes the various projects that the students have planned for the week along with their teachers.

Principal Susanne Britton shared that classes at the school have committed to perform a variety of service projects, including a flower bed cleanup, writing cards to veterans and seniors, and creating posters to encourage others to “Be Kind” and help our neighbors.

On Saturday, registration for service projects will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Jawbone Park. At 9:00 a.m., participating volunteers will head out to their service site and work until 12:00 or a little after. At 12:30, everyone will gather at Jawbone Park for the dedication of the BEST Bench, which recognizes individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to a charity, nonprofit organization, or benevolent cause.

Anyone who wishes to participate is welcome to show up and register Saturday morning or register in advance at the Buckhannon Volunteer Center website.

From 12:00 to 1:00, local service organizations are encouraged to participate and bring a display or informational materials to distribute while volunteers enjoy a slideshow of the days’ work and a pizza party.

The Buckhannon Volunteer Center is dedicated to connecting individuals who wish to volunteer with organizations in the area that need help. These organizations are often serving vulnerable populations and working to make a difference in our community. Through our website and volunteer management database, we aim to make it easier for these groups to connect and to simplify the process–whether you represent an organization that needs volunteers or are an individual looking to help out.

The Buckhannon Volunteer Center is a grant-funded program through Volunteer West Virginia and the Volunteer Generation Fund.
