Band of Brothers supports youth activities in Buckhannon and surrounding area; SYCC receives $2,000
January 17, 2020
BUCKHANNON, WV: Multiple local organizations that serve children received sizable donations from the Band of Brothers this Friday morning. Stockert Youth & Community Center and the City of Buckhannon hosted the Band of Brothers, led by Al Tucker, and community organization representatives for a check presentation ceremony.
Stockert Youth & Community Center was one of many youth organizations that benefited from the Band of Brothers’ calendar sales over the holiday season. SYCC received $2,000 toward the Center’s capital campaign for the much-needed facility expansion.
Other organizations that benefited from the charitable cause included the Parish House, Upshur County 4H – WVU Extension Service, and James W. Curry Library, just to name a few. All the organizations receiving funds work in Buckhannon and Upshur County to improve the lives of children.
Stockert Youth & Community Center provides tutoring, after-school activities, recreation and sports classes & leagues, and summer camps for youth and adults in Buckhannon and Upshur County. Camp Buccaneer and SYCC afterschool provide a safe space for students to have fun, play sports, and participate in a wide variety of activities and special programming.
The additional space through the facility expansion will allow the athletic programs–including the very popular recreational basketball program–to continue to thrive. The space will also allow for larger community events and classes that would not otherwise be possible in the current building.
Stockert Youth & Community Center sits on Main Street along the Elizabeth J. “Binky” Poundstone Riverwalk trail system and sidewalk network; the new space would serve as a central trailhead and allow for indoor walking and cycling. The space may also be used for Strawberry Festival events and as an indoor space for Festival Fridays during inclement weather.
