Bill Hamilton Ambassador Award Proclamation

MAYOR’S PROCLAMATION

Whereas, longtime Buckhannon-Upshur resident WILLIAM DAVID “BILL” HAMILTON has been an excellent contributor to our high quality of life in Buckhannon for decades, being a steadfast supporter of our City government in many ways but particularly in his service as a longtime member of the West Virginia House of Delegates representing our Buckhannon-Upshur community as our State representative either as our delegate from the 39th or 45th district since January of 2003; &

Whereas, BILL HAMILTON as Chair of the State House’s Natural Resources Committee & as Vice Chair of the State Pensions & Retirement Committee has been responsible for many positive initiatives benefiting our local environment as well as our municipal employees, & further has assisted our City in realizing many successful State grants & other programs that have among other things greatly benefited our first responder agencies, i.e., the Buckhannon Police & Fire Departments, as well as our Stockert Youth & Community Center; &

Whereas, BILL HAMILTON recently was one of the most supportive members of our State legislature, responsible for standing up for public education & supporting our teachers throughout West Virginia; &

Whereas, our Buckhannon-Upshur community appreciates & values the efforts, energy, & dedication of one of our finest residents & wishes to honor & commend BILL HAMILTON in his continued, positive mission supporting our entire B-U community & for his decades of service; &

Whereas, our City now desires to recognize our DELEGATE BILL HAMILTON by bestowing upon him our City’s highest honor with the Ambassador’s Award.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DAVID W. McCAULEY, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF BUCKHANNON, pursuant to the power & authority duly vested in me, do hereby proclaim Thursday, May 3, 2018 to be “BILL HAMILTON DAY” throughout our City of Buckhannon.

To further memorialize BILL HAMILTON’S devotion to and affinity for our Buckhannon-Upshur community, I further now hereby bestow upon him, the Buckhannon Ambassador Award, becoming one of the very few recipients & honorees of this most prestigious award. Appropriately, I direct the installation of a permanent placard upon the “Ambassador’s Bench” on East Main Street in front of our City’s Stockert Youth Center to permanently honor BILL HAMILTON, bearing the inscription-

– – “THE AMBASSADORS’ BENCH – HONORING THOSE WHO SELFLESSLY DEDICATED THEIR LIVES TO THE SERVICE, PROMOTION, & ADVANCEMENT OF BUCKHANNON” – –

I further urge all of our residents to greet our community’s most honored citizen, BILL HAMILTON, along with his family, friends, & all members of our City government family during his most special day.
