City Hall Closed In Observance Of Juneteenth!
June 18, 2021, BUCKHANNON, WV: For the first time since 1983, a new federal holiday has been created and during an emergency meeting of the Buckhannon City Council last evening, Council Members voted to add Juneteenth to the City’s Holiday Schedule.
In observance of Juneteenth, City Hall is closed today while most of the regular services are being provided on the regular schedule due to the lastness of the federal holiday being signed into law by the President of the United States.
“The City did not want to cause an udo burden to our residents by postponing important services such as waste collection without proper notice,” stated City Recorder Randy Sanders. “At the same time, we wanted follow the direction of City Council who approved Juneteenth as a recognized City Holiday and pay tribute to the importance of the holiday itself, which commemorates the end of slavery,” concluded Sanders.
City Hall will also be closed on Monday, June 21, 2021 in observance of West Virginia Day.
