  • Sunday, August 16 – The Rustic Mechanicals – West Virginia’s Shakespeare Troupe. 3:30 p.m., in the upstairs Black Box Theater at the Colonial Arts Center in Buckhannon for an interest session introducing students to the Educational Theatre Association, the West Virginia Thespian Society, and the VTC Thespian Troupe 12610.  All in attendance will receive a FREE ticket to see the Rustic Mechanicals perform THE TAMING OF THE SHREW that evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Colonial Arts Center!

Announcements

  • All City parks remain closed, except City Park on Park Street and the Buckhannon River Walk Trail, for cleaning and sanitation.

  • The Remaining Season of Festival Friday in Jawbone Park has been canceled due to the temporary closure of Jawbone Park and the flood recovery efforts.

  • Debris Removal Update: Residents are reminded to place flood‑damaged debris at the curb as soon as possible, as the WV Army National Guard is making their final passes throughout the city and the county.  Items should be staged at the edge of the right of way in a manner that does not block roadways, sidewalks, or drainage paths. If your debris has not yet been collected — or if your location was accidentally missed — please let us know so arrangements can be made (only one request necessary).  Call 304-472-4983.

  • Buckhannon is waiving all building and wiring permit fees for verified flood‑related repair and restoration work. Permits will still be required to ensure safety and compliance, but any project confirmed as flood‑related will receive a full fee waiver. Building Code Enforcement Officer Vincent Smith will inspect each project to verify eligibility.

  • Flood Relief Financial Donation Options – The City of Buckhannon and the Upshur County Commission have identified two official organizations for those wishing to make financial contributions to support local flood‑recovery efforts:
  • Trash Can Placement: Trash cans must be hidden from public view as much as possible during the week; place them at the curb the night before the collection and return them within 24 hours after the collection.
  • Utility Bill Payments: Pay utility bills online at Municipal Online Payments or by phone at 1-866-933-4026. Setting up an account allows you to monitor your consumption.
  • Report Repairs or Concerns: To report issues such as potholes or damaged signs, please call City Hall during business hours to submit a work order or use our Citizen Engagement tool: Report a Concern.
