Upcoming: Summary of the July 2, 2026 Buckhannon City Council Meeting
BUCKHANNON, WV: The Buckhannon City Council will hold its NEXT regular meeting on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 7:00 PM in Council Chambers at 70 East Main Street. The meeting will include the official oath of office for City Recorder Randy Sanders, who will begin his four-year term (2026–2030). Note: Councilmember Scott Randall will be sworn in for his new City Council term at the July 16, 2026 City Council meeting.
Council will welcome guests from West Virginia Wesleyan College—Dr. Jen Randall Reyes and Dr. Christine Schimmel—who will provide an update on the City/WVWC Addiction & Recovery Workforce Development Scholarship.
The agenda includes a public comment period, followed by an extensive Financial Report from Director of Finance Amberle Jenkins. Items include multiple loan renewals (Fiori concrete mixer and BFD SCBA equipment), authorization of signatory responsibilities, General Fund and Coal Tax budget revisions, and bill payments.
The Public Works Report will cover renewals of paving and on‑call contracting services, re‑advertising the yard reclamation contract, additional parks projects, and approval of building and wiring permits.
The Fire Department will discuss the potential purchase of a 2016 Freightliner Pierce pumper truck.
City Attorney Thomas O’Neill will present updates on Ordinance No. 479 regarding the potential purchase of 44 Cleveland Avenue through a third‑party tax sale, along with a WVWC property transfer item.
Under New Business, Council will consider renewing the IT Service Agreement with Strategy IT Technology Solutions.
The City Recorder’s Report will highlight Independence Day closures, the July 3 fireworks celebration at Jawbone Park, and the cancellation of the August 6 Council meeting due to the WVML Conference. Upcoming events at the Colonial Arts Center and Event Center at Brushy Fork will also be announced.
